After a two and half hour round trip on public transit this morning, to satisfy the little girl’s* desire to go on the Big Bus, to satisfy my desire for a grande Ubiquitous Coffee and to satisfy my husband’s** desire to visit the Large Blue Electronics Store, I finally have a brief beat of time to kick start Quarter Rest.
In case you missed it, I took a break.
Back in the summer of ’08, I was spending too much time on things – everything – in addition to convincing myself that I actually wanted to post to QR every single day. I was introduced to blogging burn out. So I took a little break. You know, for like a month. From everything. From blogging on Quarter Rest, reading my rss feeds, maintaining my flickr photos: Everything. I maintained minimal posting on a family blog and my other blog-that-acts-as-my-progress-journal, but that was it.
During that month, I realised I was surviving quite well, thank you, without posting to Quarter Rest. A little too well, really. It was peaceful. Surely, I could maintain a distance and look in on some old friends: In the fall, I took up reading blogs again. I eased onto Twitter. I found 43 things. I managed to read a few more books. I started playing around with a template on wordpress using Quarter Rest as the blog name. And I began to realise that I wanted to start QR up again.
Because I miss it. I miss the posting, the people.
But I still have things to do, shit going on and shit going down. I can’t afford to set myself up for the daily postings. But there will be regular postings: The gods know there has been enough to tell you! It’s all about finding the happy medium folks, and this vast interweb place is damn fine place to offload some of the unbalancing forces – the excess stress and sharing the joys and experiences alike – and enjoy it.
I’m back on the blog. I’ll be delurking on some of your blogs over the next few days too. The Recommended Reading list has been started and the old posts have been imported. Here’s to finding your brief beats of unscheduled time in 2009!
