Tribal

In my spare time, I … [sputter, bahahahahahahhhhh….].

Okay, now that we’ve got that out of the way. During my commute and, occasionally, during dance class when I’m not doing work-related reading, I stalk my favourite blogs.

They’re all over there, in the sidebar. Go have  a read. I’ll wait.

I will confess that I am not in the habit of commenting as often as I would like. By the time I read posts, it’s often days after the fact and seems, well, just too late. It’s all been said. The blog has moved on to other topics. Are my two cents really going to add anything now?

But one of the folks I stalk follow began a Tribe. Because the comments do matter; it’s about being part of the conversation.

Sarah, at OMG There’s 3, asked [um, a few days ago] for intros all around. Here’s mine:

1. Why did you choose your blog name?

Quarter Rest was the title of a poem I wrote many moons ago and included the lines.

I glance at my watch too fast
And the second hand stalls for a minute
Like it’s holding it’s breath and laughing
Daring me not to breath with it
A second lost for my senses regained
So the necessity of the day takes a little less of me
Before I come home to you, and you are the rest

It’s that brief skip-beat where the world resets; a moment of peace; a moment of clarity; a moment of venting; a moment of utter ridiculousness.

2. What do you wish you blogged more about?

Mostly, I just wished I blogged more. Period. I don’t particularly want to write more about one particular thing. I don’t want to blog myself into a niche. I used to have separate blogs for different areas of my life but I much prefer to have everything in one space.

3. What do you not want to read about?

Anything mean. Now, by all means, vent! Bitch, kvetch and rage. Have opinions and passion. But there is no call to hurt anyone or anything else in the process.

4. Do you have a TV show you can’t miss?

By the time I sit down at night on the west coast, I get to watch the eastern airings of The Daily Show and Colbert Report. That’s the only way I have any idea what’s going on the world. Aside from Twitter, of course.

5. What other hobbies do you have besides blogging?

After work, the Magpie and offering my time at her school? I love getting out into the nearby woods for a walk and I love to take my camera with me. I am recklessly far behind in my photo edits but I continue to snap away. I am a reiki master and keep a small practice with friends and family. I used to practice poetry regularly but, these days, it appears fits and starts. Sometimes it shows up here.

6. If you had a choice what would you get paid to do?

Now that’s the million dollar question: what do I want to be when I grow up? I am very easily distracted by shiny new things. I’ll let you know if I ever figure that out.

7. Babies… Do you have any or want more? (includes Fur Babies)

One child, but she’s not a baby any more at six years old. We currently have one cat, but this blog is likely to make reference to our old House Cat and Shiba Inu. The idea of a second cat or a dog comes up in discussion with some regularity but our current house and busy days make dog ownership, at least, unwise.

8. How do you want to do your blog? Daily or Weekly? How often do you post?

I like to blog roughly twice a week. I have “challenged” myself to daily posting in the past and, while I love to get into writing that consistently when I have the time, I just don’t have the time.

9. Biggest Pet Peeve?

In the whole wide world? People meandering slowly in front of me. Meander, sure, but keep to the right, please.

10. What do you hope to get out of this blogging experience?

New ideas, new connections and new conversation.

Welcome, Tribe!

  1. I’m glad I am stalk-worthy! I’ve greatly enjoyed learning about you and your family via the blog. Canada isn’t too far, but it seems like another country! ha ha! I kill me. You obviously do NOT read me for my humor!
